Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) or Laparoscopic Surgery
MIS is a new innovative approach to abdominal surgery. Surgery is performed with tiny incisions where cameras and microinstruments are placed to perform the surgery. MIS achieves the same surgical goals as open surgery with less pain, shorter hospital stays, smaller scars and more rapid recovery.
Our surgeons have taken specialized fellowship training in laparoscopic colon surgery. This has proven to be a great advance for our patients, who are highly satisfied with the results.
Not all patients are candidates for MIS. Those with emergency situations, or with extensive previous abdominal surgery creating scar tissue are usually not candidates. Also patients with significant obesity may limit certain MIS procedures.
Patients with the following diagnoses which may benefit from MIS: Diverticulitis, Colon Cancer, Benign Colon Polyps, Crohn's Disease, Rectal Prolapse, Ulcerative Colitis
